A bit about me:
-The Present-
My name is Will and I’m an award-winning motion graphics director based in London.
I think you’ll find that busy and arbitrary graphics are not my thing. I’m an ideas guy. And I like to bring that to the sequences I create. I’ve made accident prone men out of bank statements for Liberty Human Rights, three dimensional graffiti for Amnesty International and politically incorrect playing cards for BBC Three.
-The Past-
I’ve been working in post-production since 1993 when I started as an
editor and vision mixer (TD) for Colorado Studios in Denver, US. While there I cut features for a national news programme, sports for ESPN and FOX Sports and even worked on a Warren Miller ski feature. I also edited the feature film Raising the Stakes.
In 1998 I moved to London, UK and took up work as an assistant editor on feature films such as Billy Elliot and Gosford Park. Next it was back to editing, I spent a few years cutting documentaries for UK production companies like Darlow Smithson, Betty, Zig Zag, World of Wonder and Wall to Wall.
In the midst of the editing frenzy, I petitioned Apple Computer to add features to Final Cut Pro that would allow the system to edit films using PAL systems. I became a consultant on the project and helped Apple develop the 24@25 system now available in FCP. I still occasionally offer assistance to films using the workflow.
In 2003 I decided to focus on graphics. My first big graphics job, the channel 4 series Bricking It won an Onscreen Learning award for Technical Achievement in Graphics. Since then I’ve worked on projects for all UK terrestrial networks as well as Discovery, Virgin Media, Sky and National Geographic.
Two years ago I produced a proof of concept video for Amnesty International. Amnesty spotted the ad and commissioned a new version which has since played at film festivals and a film premiere. This year I’ve done a similar thing for Liberty Human Rights. The ad is due to go online very soon.
