This is my attempt to replicate real-life oil paintings in a CG application. All the geometry is created inside Houdini using a custom sweep object, with controls for things like stroke width, bristle height, stroke smoothness and color mixing. This is paired with an auto-trace system which can read in images and generate stroke patterns that mimic the way an oil-painter sees islands of colour in a scene. The result is a direct photo-to-painted-image system which works well on a variety of source images. Oh, and it's really fun.
