The challenge here was to build a system that could automatically generate a custom 3D shoe based on a 3D foot scan. Beyond that the system could respond to user input to dial in specific custom design features and create an endless variety of shoes.
I built this system inside Houdini. At its simplest, a user was only required to point to a 3D scan file. Houdini would handle the rest. This is something I do quite often: template a system inside Houdini, where I can work quickly and iterate through several options, and then pass everything on to developers to build a bespoke application. Other examples of this include the Mustang Personalizer App and the Death Stranding Wall.
